Urbanopathic Confection in Istanbul
Urbanopathic Confection was a confection-making stand as part of City Sense, an event curated by Nat Muller at Garajistanbul in Istanbul. A remedial candy was prepared and packaged which contained a caramalized mix of authentic Amsterdam-Istanbul ingredients. Indeed, sweetness makes everything acceptable. This vaccine disguised as a candy contained minute amounts of urbanic matter of the said cities as a panacea against city toxins.
A vital component of the candy is the serum which was made from multiple macerations of different plant and root matter. It was amber coloured and smelled like grassy-licorice pounded on an oil-stained asphalt road.
Each of the ingredients of the urban sweet has a distinct qualitative benefit for urban maladies. For instance, the Western dock mullein (Common mullein, Verbascum thapsus) which is frequently found along railway tracks prospering on the incessant gdnk rhythm of passing trains. Leaves and flowers have an inebriating, slowing effect. Ingesting or smoking the common mullein unleashes the unconscious of the city and its past memories. Crushed seeds are used to make fish tipsy.
